-"La pluie. Sous la pluie. Je pleure sans parapluie. Les fleurs, les pluies, les rides. Sous la pluie. Je pleure dans la nuit. La pluie."
-Where did you learn that?
-From TV.
-OMG. What a wonderful poem!
Waterfowl Paradise is one of the plays in the art project "The Metropolitan Metamorphosis Theatre". This series presents a mad fantasy about human beings who undergo profound changes in modern city lives. The play was inspired by an protest of Dapu land reclaimation in Taiwan, in which the government forced people to leave their hometowns for urban modernization.
The play is about the story of four characters, Mosquito, Butterfly, Housefly, and Dragonfly. They come from different places in society but they share the same goal: to get into the ultimate Elysium, Waterfowl Paradise. Before being chosen, they need to get a language thearapy to articulate themselves correctly, to learn to obey, to be productive, to be useful in this society. Will they survive the challenge? If one's language is stolen, is there still identity? What will we become when we cannot speak?
